The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India’s squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, to be played in Harare later this month. The Men’s Selection Committee has handed the captaincy to Shreyas Iyer, with Tilak Varma named as vice-captain, in a squad that leans heavily on youth and fresh faces while several senior players are engaged on the ODI tour of England.

A Look at the Squad

This is very much a forward-looking selection, blending emerging talent with a handful of in-form performers. Shreyas Iyer steps up as captain, supported by the increasingly influential Tilak Varma, while the batting group carries genuine excitement in teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and the hard-hitting Abhishek Sharma at the top of the order.

Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan arrives in strong touch, having recently climbed to the top of the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings, and shares the gloves options with Prabhsimran Singh. In the middle order, the finishing power of Rinku Singh and the all-round utility of Shivam Dube and Suryansh Shedge give the side balance and flexibility.

The bowling attack is stocked with pace and promise. Mayank Yadav, Yash Thakur, Prince Yadav and Ashok Sharma offer raw speed and variety, while the spin department is led by the experienced mystery of Varun Chakaravarathy alongside the left-arm option of Harsh Dubey. With senior names rested or on ODI duty, the series in Harare represents a valuable opportunity for this group to press their claims ahead of a busy international calendar.

ODI Squad Update

Alongside the Zimbabwe announcement, the Selection Committee confirmed a change to India’s ODI squad for the series against England: Shivam Dube has been named as a replacement for Nitish Kumar Reddy. India’s updated ODI squad reads: Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (Vice-Captain), KL Rahul (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar and Shivam Dube.
